Get your Apartment Ready for the Holidays

Living in an apartment doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice those interior decorating skills of yours, especially when it comes to the holidays. At Le Rivage Luxury Apartments, we will do our best to make you feel at home this Christmas. However, what you do with the interior of your apartment is entirely up to you! In this post, we’ve provided some useful advice for how to get your apartment ready for the holidays. From Christmas tree alternatives to colorful themes, we’ll make sure you have every base covered.

Start With The Tree

When you think about Christmas decorations, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Most likely, you think of the tree. Let’s start with the tree and work from there. At Le Rivage, our floor plans offer plenty of space for a full-size tree. However, if you still prefer a smaller tree, there are several options available to you. We’ll provide a list of different trees that can work with virtually any floor plan.

Slim Tree

Slim trees are available in either real or fake pine and can generally be found anywhere. These are the trees that you see that are tall and skinny. They seem to be a full-sized tree based on the height, but the width is significantly narrower than a regular tree. This makes slim trees a favorable option for fitting in tight spaces, like a corner or nook.

Mini Tree

Small trees can be just as effective in bringing the Christmas spirit as their larger counterparts. If floor space is particularly limited, considered buying one (or multiple) miniature trees. Miniature trees can be placed anywhere – on shelves, bookcases, windowsills, tabletops, etc. You can even scatter them all around the apartment for your own mini winter wonderland!

Half Tree

If a slim tree feels too slim and a miniature tree too mini, there’s another alternative that offers a full-bodied tree feel without occupying too much floor space. Consider purchasing a half tree. Half trees are conveniently flat on one side and full on the other. This makes it perfect for giving the illusion of a full tree only where it’s visible, and taking up the least amount of space possible where it isn’t.

Wall Tree

If floor space simply isn’t an option, or if you’re seeking a less traditional way of doing things, we have you covered. You may want to try a wall tree. A wall tree is an alternative to an actual tree, but still mimics the conventional idea of one. You can make a wall tree with things like lights, garland, Christmas cards, or any other décor. The trick is to arrange them in the shape of a triangle (or tree) and there you have it – a wall tree!

Choose a Theme

Choosing a theme for your apartment isn’t necessary, but you might find it makes shopping and decorating easier when you have one in mind. It can also help tie everything in your apartment together when you have a consistent theme throughout. Here are some ideas for themes to help you get your apartment ready for the holidays:

Popular Holiday Icons

Popular holiday icons refer to the classic symbols that often represent Christmas time and the holidays. For example, snowflakes, candy canes, reindeer, elves, gift boxes, etc. There are small (and large) figurines and decorations of all these types of holiday icons available in most stores during the holiday season.

Colors

Basing your theme on colors is a popular and fun way to decorate for the holidays. It can make shopping for decorations as simple as keeping your eyes peeled for one or two specific colors. Common color combinations include reds, greens, golds, silvers, blues, and whites. Any combination of these colors can really make your apartment pop. However, you’re not limited to these and these only. There’s a whole world of color to choose from! Brighter colors like purple and teal are becoming increasingly popular during the holiday season.

Type

A type of theme might be better referred to as the “style” of decoration. When choosing a style, it may help to pay attention to your current layout of things. Look around your apartment and notice the type of aura it gives off. It is rustic? Classic? Elegant? Artsy? Whatever style you’ve already established can really  benefit from holiday décor with that same kind of style. A consistent atmosphere can really capture the eye.

Don’t Forget The Lights

A great way to add an unmistakable layer of Christmas cheer is to brighten up your apartment with twinkly lights. You may not be able to hang them from your roof, but with the help of Command strips, you can basically hang them anywhere in your apartment. And the best part? They take up little to no space at all.

Consider draping the lights above windows or mirrors, hanging them from the wall or ceiling, above doorways, or even wrapped around pillars or bed posts. Once they’re up, you may not ever want to take them down!

Include Some Stockings

Finding a place to hang your stockings might be tricky if you don’t have a fireplace or mantel. Which, if you’re in an apartment, you probably don’t. Don’t worry, though. There are plenty of other unique places to hang your stockings so that your guests (and Santa) can still find them. Consider buying heavyweight stocking holders or Command strips. That way, you can hang your stockings basically anywhere. Shelves, bookcases, counters, walls, window sills, you name it! You can even hang stockings on a coat rack or key holders. Believe it or not, stockings are not subjected to chimneys only.

Finally, Add Some Finishing Touches

This is your place to really get creative. Add some candles, shrubbery, mistletoe, pine cones, or whatever finishing touches you think you need to get your apartment ready for the holidays. Sometimes, adding a furry white blanket or some festive throw pillows to your coach can really seal the deal when it comes to holiday decor. You can even hang a wreath outside your door to let others know you’re basking in the holiday spirit.
